Dark Age – More Medium Foot

Ok so to finish off the current project, here are the last group of models. These are the last of my Dark Age troops specifically done for Saxons/Vikings. As you can see there are 16 DBx bases, so 8 ADLG or 4 Hail Caesar units. All of these figures are on 20mm deep bases and are based 4 to a base. So that’s… erm using fingers and toes… 64 more 15mm figs done. They will be medium foot in many games but they could stand work for heavy foot as well as needed. It does allows me to differentiate them a little from the 15mm deep based figs though.

I’ll show each of the groups above in a little more detail. These bases include a wide selection of figures but most are again from the Old Glory 15’s I believe. There are various packs here though – mostly Vikings but likely some of the other dark age troops mixed in as well. Most have felt armour vs. metal. They have the now usual combination of shields and various other weapons. Most of these will count as swordsmen in the games – although one set in the below group could easily be Berserkers as well. Some can even be spearmen if needed.

I have ensured the bases in this army roughly match the troops that I have done. So they should all work together as force. You can see that and the various different poses and colours in the combined shots of this group.

Talking poses, I have tried to ensure that there is some character and energy in the bases. Personally, I hate ‘all the same pose’ units unless the force is a very definite formed, well drilled force such as the Romans. That was especially not the case for this time frame and thus the wide selection of troops and figures.

The last unity/set are below. You can see I even have a few of bases here with a good selection of spears. So if needs be, I can put those to the front of the units and have them work as spears.

So there we are the Saxons and Vikings are complete – but don’t worry I have started on Anglo-Saxons (which are pretty much the same) next. I have thought that I should try to get them all out and take a meg picture of two of the full force as they likely won’t be getting to the table any time too soon. But we will see on that.

  1. Good progress there, Mark! 🙂

The Dark Ages have never looked so colourful! They make for really pleasing groups and as you say all the mixed poses add a certain something to their warlike spirit.
