About

I have no illusions of winning painting awards/competitions but like to paint and play with ‘toy soldiers’ to relax as a hobby. This Blog is purely so I display some pictures and as much for my own benefit keep track of what I have done and when.

Hopefully over time I may even improve my painting skills a little.

    Hi..
I saw your nice 6mm Russians for SYW.
I was wondering where you got the flags and what dimensions they were..
They’re quite striking at that size. I like it!

Thanks for looking and the comment. I downloaded the flags from war flags – the URL for the Seven Years War flags is here: http://www.warflag.com/flags/syw/sywselect.shtml and scaled down the images so they worked with 6mm figs. Some require a little manipulation but nothing that complex too better allow for the flag pole. Then I just printed them out and use paint to touch up the white edges to give a consistent theme.

I tend to in later ones remove the standard flag poles from the Baccus mini’s and add a little fishing line for the flag pole instead. I previously used the cast flag poles but they are too easy to damage over time, I have found. The fishing line provides a much more forgiving flag pole but still hold the flag well. For the size I went with a size which works for the models. I think the flags are a bit big for the scale but as you say they look good so why not use them that way.
