Space Hulk – Marines 1st set

Following up on the first genestealer post, I wanted to get out some pictures of the marine terminators. These are the opponents who will be facing those nasties in the Space Hulk game. So, I present the first 5 terminators in this post. I purposely did them the similar colours as the box set, but mine are a little darker and grimier than the traditional ones. They might be a little more red than orange as well. The bright colours are not my style but also just don’t feel quite right for death in the grim darkness of a space hulk.

I’ll also be honest and say that by using contrast and washes it’s easier to paint these to a decent level vs. trying to go for the bright look as well. But I really like the grime – they do not call the 40k universe a Grim Dark setting for nothing. 🙂

The lighting for these shots was not perfect but hopefully you see the effects well. I kept to red and silver as the main colours with a dark grey (with some blue tones) for some of the piping and flexible bits on the suits. There is some gold sprinkled in as well as a highlight on them.

What is nice is that each of these models is unique and quite characterful. These two are the flamer and the gatling gun. Yes, I know it’s not called that officially – I think it’s an assault cannon or something. But you can’t say that’s not taken from the Predator movie, which follows the whole concept of the game ‘borrowing’ familiar items to make a fun game. 🙂

Well there we are more models ready for the table.

  1. Nicely done, Mark! 🙂 They’ve got a gritty, no-nonsense look to them!
